Believing in Himself: How Jaden Found Confidence Through Community Employment
Posted on September 8, 2026

As we celebrate Disability Employment Month, we’re proud to share Jaden’s success story.
By Ellen Young
With support from WorkBC, Jaden was connected to a volunteer opportunity in a community café in Greater Victoria, where he serves coffee, interacts with customers, and contributes to a welcoming environment. Before this role, Jaden gained valuable experience through other community-based employment opportunities, helping him develop workplace skills and confidence.
From the beginning, Jaden’s positive attitude and desire to help others stood out. He says his favorite part of volunteering is helping people and sharing kindness with those around him. When asked what success means to him today, Jaden’s answer was simple and powerful: “Believing in myself.”
The volunteer coordinator who works with Jaden has seen tremendous growth since he started. Initially shy, Jaden has become increasingly comfortable and confident in his role as he has gained experience and built relationships with staff and customers. His team has been supportive, and his contributions have been appreciated by those he serves.
Jaden’s story demonstrates the impact that inclusive opportunities can have. With encouragement, the right supports, and a chance to contribute, he has gained confidence, developed new skills, and become a valued member of his community.
Jaden’s advice to others: “Just be positive.”
